Who we are

CKI is a network and community of Customs professionals, formed for the purposes of knowledge sharing and education. It started as a collaboration between Irish and Lithuanian professionals, representing the extreme East and West of the EU, and has since expanded to include professionals from the UK, many other EU countries, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

Our primary function is to support our members.  Our membership activities are centred on our Customs Knowledge Community (CKC) and associated online forum, where members discuss issues and make consensus decisions.

Requests for advice, training and other professional support are directed to our members, who provide services directly, but with CKI support.

The legal form is that of a not-for-profit company, registered in Ireland as Customs Knowledge International CLG, registration number 702016. This type of company is governed by trustees, who cannot receive any dividends or profit distributions from the company and whose interest in the company cannot have any monetary value. The company itself must apply all income to the educational purposes for which it was formed. The company cannot be sold, and if it is wound up, any assets must be donated to another educational not-for-profit entity.

Our Membership.

We aim to have representation from all economic areas affected by customs. At present, we have students, professionals with experience ranging from a few years to more than 40 years, customs brokers, educational and training institutions, software companies, manufacturers, web publishers, company employees building their knowledge in the context of their roles, company managers seeking to improve their business and supply chain planning, and trainers and educators seeking to network with others to grow their businesses.

We have association agreements with CONFIAD, EUROPRO, UK Institute of Export and several national practitioner associations.

Amidst the delightful diversity of our membership, we share core convictions: that networking and sharing knowledge is beneficial to all; and there is not enough collaboration between Customs practitioners, especially in Europe. We hope that the many voices of our members will combine to become a strong international voice for all of us who find ourselves wrestling with the complexity of trade regulation.
